A Day in May

Hurry up and wait

I was on my home for lunch today, in the middle of what little bit of traffic there was on Lancaster Street. Not too fast, not too slow.

Some young guy came flying up behind us, and apparently was on his way to a fire, because he just HAD to go faster. He, in his little lowered Toyota, zipped over into the (empty) curb lane and gunned it.

(There's a reason that curb lane was empty. Everyone but him could see there was a TON of water gathered at the curb, for a good few feet.)

He picked up speed, hit the water at full force, damn near drove his car into the curb, all the while sending a *wave* over those of us in the lane beside him. Steam poured out from under his car, and the kid jumped back into our lane before the road went back to just one lane.

Then the little bugger's car promptly stalled, blocking all of us behind him.

Yeah. Because driving like a jerk will get you there SO much faster.

A little of this, a little of that.

I'm so glad I had Thursday and Friday off of work. After getting the news about Trifle on Thursday, I really needed some 'me' time. Friday I spent doing some errands, and cleaning the house, and filing papers and things. I got our tax stuff together and dropped that off to be done, and then took some pictures and a video of some kittens. Now, if squealing kittens can't make you smile, there's something wrong with you.

Friday night I went to my Dad's house. Oma and Opa have returned from Florida, and were at the house before they headed up to the cottage for the summer. I had a migraine, but also knew that some time with family, especially my ultra-adorable nephews, would do a headache good. Again, some things just HAVE to make you smile.

Saturday was an excellent day. Mike headed off to hockey and I stayed in my jammies till noon. I have over 10,000 photos to sort through on the computer, and I got a chunk of that done. When Mike got back from hockey, we dropped the dog off at her grandma's and headed out to Toronto. We went to the Lush store, and then down to the Mac store. After shopping, we grabbed a bite to eat and then drove out past the Beach, out to Fallingbrook and Kingston, and toured through some side streets just looking at houses. Back on Queen, we found our way to the back of the water treatment plant and Mike walked right down to the water. I would have joined him, but I was busy taking pictures. And also, *brrrr*. I was cold enough standing in shelter, I didn't want to head down to the beach. The weather was getting worse, so we headed home.

Sunday was the usual: groceries, then errands and cleaning/laundry. Mike had hockey last night, and I used that time to do more work on the computer, and get my head ready for work today.

I'm glad it's another short week. I want to get all of those pictures sorted so I can get them uploaded to my gallery.

Enough for now. I've got some work to catch up on, and some phone calls to make.

The Big C.

I wanted to tell you all more about Rent, and how it was an absolutely *fantastic* show, and how I'd love to see it again some time.

And then I wanted to tell you all how I spent the morning with my mom and friend looking for wedding dresses.

But all I can think of now is how the vet just told me my sweet little puppy probably has cancer.

It looks to be in her lungs, and it is most likely untreatable. All we can hope is that it leaves her good lung alone, and doesn't cause any more problems than it already is. (Which, right now, is just regular coughing. Otherwise, she's still a ball of fire.)

There's much more to this story, but man. I am just tired. My head, and my heart, need a break from thinking about this. I'll update more when I know more, and once Mike and I have discussed what path we'll take with this.

My Poor Dog!

For those of you not in the know, Tuesday is the day my dog, Trifle, and I go to a local long-term care facility. (She's a Certified Therapy Dog.) Tonight we visited one of our usual patients, a teenager with CP. Normally, when we visit K, he's got padded mitts on so that he doesn't pull his feeding tube out. Tonight, his dad was with him so his hands were free. I picked up Trifle and held her over his chair, and he started to pet her. Then he got a solid hold on her collar, and twisted. Yikes. Poor Trifle was starting to cough a bit, and K's dad and myself were desperately trying to unclench K's fist and get him to let go of Trifle's collar. I had just gotten her collar unhooked when K let go. His dad apologized, but I really wasn't worried or upset. Things happen. Some of the patients there are extremely unpredictable, but that comes with the territory. Trifle didn't cry, or show signs of stress or fear. She gave a cough here and there, and waited for us to free her. She's a tough ol' gal.

Then, on the way in from the car, as I was trying to unlock the door, I dropped my whole damn ring of keys on her head.

My poor dog.

Litterbug

Why do people litter??

Specifically, why, while sitting in your truck in the drive-thru of Tim Horton's, with TWO garbage bins placed strategically beside you at different points, would you feel the overwhelming urge to throw all the wrapping from your cigarette pack out the window??

And the kicker? He actually used one of the garbage bins to throw a coffee cup out. *sigh*

Rent, Spring Cleaning, and Wedding Stuff

Mike got us tickets to see 'Rent' on Wednesday night. I'm *very* excited. I'm also pleasantly surprised that he remembered I wanted to see it!

I booked Thursday and Friday off of work to get some stuff done around the apartment. I'm in 'spring clean' mode, and want to get rid of a bunch of clutter and put some stuff in storage. Also, Trifle has to go to the vet Thursday morning to get her teeth cleaned.

We ordered our wedding rings on Saturday. They should be ready witihin a month. We also happened upon a wonderful gown store on Saturday, and I'll be headed back there to try and find my dress.

That's all the updates for now. Check back again!
